Florida leaders are putting a lot of eggs in the biotechnology basket, betting that the fast-growing industry will produce good-paying jobs for state residents.
They’ve spent millions of dollars to attract biotech research centers to the state, and local business boosters are trying to recruit more companies to South Florida. The University of Miami is even planning a Life Science Park, which is expected to employ 4,500 people.
