Palm Beach County sent a smaller delegation to the Biotechnology Industry Or-ganization’s BIO convention in Chicago this year than in past years, and attendance overall has dwindled. BIO says this year’s attendance is “nearly 15,000,” compared to 14,352 at last year’s show in Atlanta and 19,479 at the 2006 conference in Chicago.

“The exhibit hall is definitely smaller than it has been in the past,” said Russell Allen, head of BioFlorida, the West Palm Beach-based trade group that coordinates Florida’s marketing efforts at BIO. “I can understand it, because marketing budgets are not top priority right now.”
